Biodiversity and ecosystem services in a changing environment: Challenges for science and conservation

Trondheim 13 - 15 mars 2013

We are pleased to invite Norwegian ecologists to the first conference in the Norwegian Ecological society (NØF) in Trondheim March 13th – 15th 2013.

This first NØF-conference will focus on how biodiversity and ecosystem services are affected by changes in drivers such as climate, resource consumption, land and water use, and on how ecological science can contribute to sustainable management of biodiversity and ecosystem services. This is particularly relevant because the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) was established in April 2012 as a parallel to IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). The success of IPBES depends critically on effective communication with the ecological research community about research of relevance for the maintenance and conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Confirmed keynote speakers at the conference include Professor Bernt-Erik Sæther (Centre for Conservation Biology, NTNU), Professor Steve Albon (The James Hutton Institute, Scotland), Professor John Birks (University of Bergen) and Signe Nybø (NINA). Together, they will give a broad coverage and the wider perspective on the questions outlined above.

Registration to the conference can be done by clicking the button below. Registration deadline is March 1st.

Oral and poster presentations

We encourage participants to present their work at the conference. We aim to present an overview over ongoing ecological research in Norway, as well as work of particular relevance to the conference theme. Oral and poster presentations from all fields of ecology are therefore welcome. Please indicate in the online form if your contribution is general, or addressing the conference theme. Abstracts should be no longer than 250 words. All presentations should be given in English. Please submit your submissions electronically by clicking the button below.

Deadline for abstract submission is February 15th 2013.

Participants must contact hotels directly for making reservations, but the organizers have made pre-reservations with two hotels to ensure that rooms are available. If these options are chosen for accommodation, please inform the hotels that you are participating in this conference when you make a reservation.
We have made pre-reservations at the following hotels:

  • Comfort Hotel Park Trondheim, Reference no: 50777 - [www.choice.no, tlf: +47 73833900]
  • Clarion Hotel & Congress Trondheim, Reference no: 017829 - [www.clariontrondheim.no, tlf: +47 73925532]

To encourage students to participate in the conference, we will arrange private accommodation in Trondheim for students visiting the town. To make it possible for you students to stay as cheap and comfortable as possible, we asked volounteers at the university that are able to host you and your sleeping bag during your stay, that means they will provide you with a place to sleep for the whole time the conference lasts. Furthermore, you can make contact with local persons and they can also give you advises on what to do in Trondheim after the last presentation is over. To organize this, all people that want to use this service should write an e-mail to michaelkroencke@web.de, adding their own gender and if you want to be hosted by a person of the same gender, also that.
